WoWidget is a lightweight Windows application that retrieves your character information through Blizzard's official API and sends selected values to a Discord Profile Widget that you create and control.
It can display your character portrait, name, realm, guild, class, specialization, progression, collections, and other supported statistics.
Yes. WoWidget is free to download and use. The project is also open source, allowing users to inspect the code and contribute through GitHub.
Blizzard requires an API client so WoWidget can request public character data. Discord requires an application because the Profile Widget belongs to that application and is published through its Widget Editor.
You create both applications yourself, which keeps the credentials and Discord widget under your control.
No. WoWidget cannot move characters, change equipment, spend gold, perform gameplay actions, or access your Battle.net password. It uses Blizzard's profile APIs to read character information.
WoWidget is designed to update the Profile Widget associated with your Discord application. It does not provide messaging, server-management, friend-list, or direct-message features.
Yes. Open WoWidget, search for the new character, select it, generate or save its portrait, and choose Update Widget Now.
Security & Privacy
WoWidget stores supported secrets through Windows Credential Manager rather than placing them in a visible text configuration file. It communicates with Blizzard, Discord, and the services required to create and upload the widget portrait.
As with any application, download WoWidget only from the official release page and never share your Client Secrets or Bot Token.
No. Never enter your Battle.net password into WoWidget. The application authenticates through the Blizzard developer credentials created during setup.
WoWidget stores supported sensitive values in Windows Credential Manager. Other application preferences and generated portrait files are stored locally on the computer.
WoWidget only needs the functionality required to update the Profile Widget, but Discord currently presents the broader Social SDK permission package during authorization. The application you are authorizing is the Discord application that you created yourself.
Never publish or send your Blizzard Client Secret, Discord Client Secret, or Discord Bot Token to another person. If one is exposed, regenerate it in the relevant developer portal and update WoWidget.
WoWidget uses Blizzard's developer APIs and does not interact with the game client or automate gameplay. Users remain responsible for following Blizzard's current terms and API policies.
Widgets & Portraits
Yes. The Widget Bottom Stats Grid can display the supported statistics you care about most. You can return to Discord's Widget Editor and change those slots later.

WoWidget's standard workflow updates the widget attached to the Discord application configured in the desktop app. Advanced users may create separate Discord applications, but each one requires its own setup and authorization.
WoWidget uses Blizzard's official character-media render. Blizzard commonly generates that render from the appearance saved in the character's first Outfit Slot rather than the most recently worn outfit.
To control the portrait, save the desired transmog to Outfit Slot 1, log out of the character, and allow Blizzard time to refresh the render before generating the portrait again.
Blizzard's raw render is not framed specifically for Discord's Widget layout. The Portrait Editor lets you move and scale the character so important details stay inside the visible area and away from the left-side fade.
The current Portrait Editor generates the widget image from Blizzard's official character-media render. Custom-image importing is not part of the standard WoWidget 1.0 workflow.
Some values only exist after the character participates in the relevant activity. For example, a character without a current PvP rating cannot display one. Blizzard can also delay or omit particular profile values.
Updates & Performance
Yes. WoWidget can remain minimized and idle in the background, but it cannot perform an automatic update after it has been completely closed.
An interval of 30–60 minutes provides current information during normal play sessions without making unnecessary API requests. More frequent updates usually provide little benefit because Blizzard and Discord may cache data.
Yes. Select Update Widget Now in WoWidget. The resulting Discord display may still take a short time to propagate.
WoWidget can send the latest data immediately, but Blizzard's source data and Discord's displayed widget may refresh on their own schedules. A short delay does not necessarily indicate a failed update.
WoWidget is designed to remain lightweight. It performs work when searching, generating a portrait, or updating the widget, then returns to an idle state between scheduled checks.
Yes. Enable Launch at Windows start and optionally Start application minimized for automatic background operation.
Compatibility
WoWidget currently supports Windows. Native macOS and Linux releases are not available at this time.
No. WoWidget 1.0 is intended for Retail World of Warcraft. Classic profile data and progression structures differ from the current WoWidget workflow.
Select the region where the character is located before searching. A character on a US realm, for example, will not be found while the EU region is selected.
Yes, but changing accounts requires a new Discord authorization. Make sure the browser is signed into the intended Discord account before starting authorization.
WoWidget relies on Discord's current Widget Editor and Social SDK behavior. If Discord changes or removes those systems, WoWidget may require an update and continued compatibility cannot be guaranteed.

Yes. You can review the source, report issues, and follow development through the official GitHub repository.
Yes. The new computer will need the application installed and configured again. You may also need to regenerate the portrait because local files and Windows Credential Manager entries do not automatically transfer.
First review the Troubleshooting guide. If the issue remains unresolved, create a GitHub issue that includes the exact error message, the action you were performing, and the WoWidget version.
Yes. Submit a feature request through GitHub with a clear description of the problem it would solve and how you imagine the feature working.
